Getting Started

What is 2 Meg or Less?

2 Meg or Less is a privacy-focused mobile app that compresses photos and creates PDFs, all processed locally on your device. The app specializes in reducing photo file sizes to under 2MB while maintaining excellent quality.

What platforms does the app support?

iOS (requires iOS 13.0 or later) and Android (requires Android 6.0 or later). Works on iPhone, iPad, and Android phones/tablets.

Do I need an internet connection?

No. All photo compression and PDF creation happens 100% locally on your device. Internet is only required for initial app download, subscription verification (one-time check), and restoring purchases on a new device. Once verified, the app works completely offline.

Is there a free trial?

Yes! New users get a 3-day free trial when they select a subscription plan. The trial includes full access to all features, unlimited photo compression, unlimited PDF creation, and camera access. No credit card required upfront.

Subscription & Billing

How much does the app cost?

Monthly: $0.99/month, Yearly: $4.99/year (save 58%), Lifetime: $19.99 one-time payment (best value). All plans include unlimited access to all features.

Is a subscription required?

Yes. 2 Meg or Less requires an active subscription to use any features. There is no free tier after the trial ends.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple or Google. On iOS: Settings → Your Name → Subscriptions → 2 Meg or Less → Cancel. On Android: Google Play Store → Menu → Subscriptions → 2 Meg or Less → Cancel. You retain access until the end of your current billing period.

Can I use my subscription on multiple devices?

Yes! Your subscription works on all devices using the same Apple ID (iOS) or Google account (Android). Just tap 'Restore Purchases' on each device.

Photo Compression

How does photo compression work?

Select photos from your gallery, choose a compression mode (Auto, Target Size, or Percentage), and the app processes images locally on your device. Compressed photos are saved to your Photos app (iOS) or Gallery (Android). All processing happens on your device - photos are never uploaded anywhere.

What compression modes are available?

Auto Mode: Automatically compresses to under 2MB (best for most users). Target Size Mode: Choose 512 KB, 1 MB, or 2 MB. Percentage Mode: Reduce file size by 30-70% with adjustable quality slider.

Will compression reduce photo quality?

Yes, but minimally. The app uses smart algorithms to preserve 95-98% visual quality while reducing file size by 70-80%. Most people cannot see the difference.

Does compression change photo resolution?

No, by default. The 'Keep Original Resolution' setting is ON by default, which means a 4032x3024 photo stays 4032x3024. Only file size is reduced.

Can I compress multiple photos at once?

Yes! The app supports unlimited batch processing. Select as many photos as you want and compress hundreds in one go with real-time progress tracking.

What is 'Threshold Scanning'?

Threshold scanning automatically finds photos over a specific size (Over 2MB, Over 5MB, or Over 10MB). This is faster than manually selecting photos when you want to compress all large files.

PDF Creation

How does PDF creation work?

Select photos from your gallery, choose PDF mode (Under 2MB or Quality), adjust compression level (20-100%), and tap 'Create PDF'. The PDF is generated locally on your device with no cloud uploads.

What PDF modes are available?

Under 2MB Mode: Creates PDFs under 2MB (recommended 10 or fewer images). Quality Mode: Maximum quality PDFs with no size restrictions (can be up to 20MB, best for printing).

Where are PDFs saved?

iOS: PDFs must be saved via the Share sheet (tap 'Share PDF' → Save to Files, iCloud, or send via email). Android: Automatically saved to Downloads folder.

Privacy & Security

Are my photos uploaded to the cloud?

No. Never. All photo compression and PDF creation happens 100% locally on your device. Your photos never leave your iPhone or Android device.

Does the app collect my data?

No. The app does not collect personal information, location data, device identifiers, usage analytics, or advertising data. The only third-party service used is RevenueCat for subscription management.

What permissions does the app need?

Photo Library Access (to select photos), Camera Access (for Quick Camera feature), Storage Access (to save compressed photos and PDFs), and Background Processing on iOS only (to continue compression if you briefly switch apps).

Can the app access all my photos?

No. The app only accesses photos you explicitly select. It cannot browse or scan your entire photo library without your permission.

Troubleshooting

Why can't I find my compressed photos?

iOS: Check Photos app → Recents album (photos may take a few seconds to appear). Android: Check Gallery → Pictures/CompressedPhotos folder or Files app → Pictures folder.

Why is my photo still over 2MB after compression?

This should not happen with Auto mode. Possible causes: You used Percentage mode (not guaranteed under 2MB), compression was cancelled mid-process, or you're checking the wrong photo. Solution: Use Auto mode for guaranteed under-2MB results.

Why can't I restore my purchases?

Ensure you're using the same Apple ID or Google account that made the purchase. Check your internet connection and tap 'Restore Purchases' again. Contact Apple/Google support if the issue persists.
